More than 2 months with no update in this progressing book, 2 months is a gap that remains covered throughout our family history. Emme’s great-grandchildren will confuse in disappointment that the building tension in the preceding writings got truncated without explanation. The thousands of stories that took place in a second summer within China’s borders will have to be unraveled elsewhere. Nothing will be mentioned of this, unless, in some inattentive moment in the future, I fill another page, mindlessly reviewing one of these previous months.

In fact, none of this matters. Deterministically, I could have written the above at any time, and in any place (with a nod to chance, in a deterministic sense, that is!). The thoughts I would have while writing the above, the memories I’m trying to recall (and the memories I’d rather avoid) might differ there and then, but it doesn’t matter for the final story. According to mathematical “derive”, the moment between experiencing and remembering, or remembering and writing down (or not, in today’s story line) could be divided endlessly until it becomes indivisibly small. Thus the written becomes equal to the memory. And the memory becomes the experience.

Remember that memories can also be experienced, or remembered, themselves. Making an experience almost unmemorable. And all the more special.

Written on September 9, 2019

Unbelievable!
