With my own business I am an bottomless pit in which the family budget disappears. Almost every day I race to Suzhou to spend a few hours staring at dividing cells, and in the evenings I am claimed by a pro forma administration, an attempt to write a patent, a non-existent collaboration with RIVM and a Chinese partner, scholarship applications, residence documents, emails, scripts, and if there is time left, an attempt at market research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week I also had to go to Hong Kong, where I spent about 6000 RMB in 3 days (and 3 working days!) for a visa that will soon have to be converted into a residence document \/ work permit in Hangzhou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yesterday I thought for a moment: what a lot of effort. And for what? Will this ever lead to anything? Does it ever make money? Can I ever reach my goal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the evening I come home and after dinner Emme plays her cello as usual. Beautiful as always. She practices hard and plays Dvorak’s Humoresque. But as always, I am also strict, and exaggerating, full of self-conviction. Until tears appear. \u201cEvery day 50 minutes,\u201d says Emme. “Why?” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
